Background History of University of Veterinary Science
This University started as Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Under Rangoon University in 1957. In 1967, it was upgraded to Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science (IAHVS) in Insein, Rangoon. In 1981, IAHVS was moved to Yezin, Pyinmana. In 1994, IAHVS was transferred under the governance of Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. Before 1997,the course was 6 years and changed to 5 years course in 1997. In 1999, the name of IAHVS was changed to University of Veterinary Science.
In 1992, Post-graduate study programmes such as Master and doctor of Philosophy were started and continueuntil now.Since 2006, first year students were selected by entrance examination including written and viva.Until 2012, 4,409 graduates were produced. Degrees conferred are BVS, BVSc, Dip. LIS, MPhil, MSc, MVSc and PhD.

Responsibility:
Teaching English subject to first year students

(9) Department of Anatomy
Responsibility:
1. Contribute to the teaching of veterinary anatomy to undergraduate and postgraduate students
2. Establish an active research program in an aspect of veterinary anatomy or related discipline
3. Recruit and supervise Honours and postgraduate research students
4. Directly provide clinical services and mentor/supervise other veterinarians in the area of veterinary anatomy.

Effect of Broiler strains and vaccine virus strains on immune response to infectious bursa disease virus and
vaccine virus induced pathological changes
(10) Department of Physiology and Biochemistry
Responsibility:
1. To train the basic and concrete knowledge of Physiology and Biochemistry for the undergraduate students at the 2nd year B.V.Sc. leading to the qualified Veterinary surgeon and Animal scientist.
2. To produce post graduate students who are well qualified to provide the kind of Veterinary and Animal Science in their provide the kind of Veterinary and Animal science in their specialty which will meet the needs and expectation of the country Livestock sector.
Ongoing research works:
1. Community nutrition (usage of UMMB, different feed resources at different regions)
2. Methane emission (Determination of methane emission from ruminant production, investigation of methane reducing feedstuffs for ruminants)
3. Comparison of diets used at farm level (ration formulation for ruminants)
4. Production of mimosine degrading bacteria
(11) Department of Pathology and Microbiology
Responsibility:
Teaching Pathology and Microbiology subjects to Third BVSc students and supervise

1. Isolation, Identification and Plasmid Profile of E. coli O157 isolated from Cattle
2. Study on the Gross and Histopathological Lesions of Kidneys, Liver, Spleen, Lungs, Heart and Lymph Nodes in Antivenom Producing Sheep Hyperimmunized with Viper Venom
3. Histopathological Changes of Adrenal Gland, Thyroid Gland, Lymph Nodes and Thymus in Hyperimmunized Horses Experimentally Induced with Viper Venom, Cobra Venom and TetanusToxin
(12) Department of Pharmacology and Parasitology
Responsibility:
Teaching Pharmacology and Parasitology subjects to 3rd BVSc students and Public Health and
Epidemiology subjects to 4th BVSc students

7. Fascioliasis in cattle and mithun
8. Zoonotic diseases in small ruminants

(13) Department of Surgery and Reproduction
Responsibility:
1. Teaching General Surgery and Theriogenology subjects to 4th BVSc students and Operative Surgery subjects to Final BVSc students
2. Demonstrate surgical operation of animals at veterinary teaching hospital
3. Supervise Post-graduate students

1. Studies Related to Bovine Cervico-Vaginal Mucous for Estrus Detection
2. Studies Related to the Semen Characteristics of Local Goats
(14) Department of Medicine
Responsibility:
1. Teaching Clinical Medicine and Aquaculture and Aquatic Diseases to fourth year students and Preventive Medicine to final year students by theoretically and practically
2. Clinical examination and treatment as small animal practices are demonstrated at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
3. Other departmental activities are excursion to elephant camp, artificial insemination of fish and theme paper presentation.

5. Validation of elephant body weight estimation formula for Myanma Timber Elephants
6. Study on seasonal incidence of gastrointestinal parasitic infestation and efficacy of Albendazole and Ivermcetin against gastrointestinal parasites in Myanma Timber Elephants
(15) Department of Animal Science

3. Farm Animal Nutrition and Wild, Aquatic and Companion Nutrition to 4th BVSc students

Pig Production, Poultry Production (Farm Animal specialization and Wild, Aquatic and Companion animal specialization), Ruminant Production (Farm Animal specialization and Wild, Aquatic and Companion animal specialization), Veterinary Jurisprudence, Extension and Farm Economic to Final BVSc students.

Social Activities of University of Veterinary Science
Social activities are done by the following associations;
1. Buddhist Association
-This association leads to celebrate donation of Waso and Ka-Htein Thingan, students’ donation ceremony to teachers and Athan Ma Sae Ma Har Pa Htan Pwe.
2. Culture Association
-This association leads to celebrate competition of singing, writing poems and papers, debate and take parts in Union Day ceremony.
3. Sports Committee
-This committee comprises sub-committees of Soccer, Volleyball, Sepaktakraw, Htoo-See-Toe, Scrable, Chess and Hiking.
1. Clinical Studies Association
Fourth year BVSc students participate in this association and led by one professor. Every year, clinical field studies are practiced in village tracts by performing vaccination, surgical operation and treatments to animals. Moreover, extension services regarding animal diseases and zoonotic diseases are also done to farmers to achieve public awareness.
Seminars
Proposal Seminars are done by post-graduate students of veterinary subjects. Teaching staff and post-graduate students read the papers in Conference of Myanmar Veterinary Association and Myanmar Academy seminars. Visiting lecturers from departments, companies and private sector are also invited to share their knowledge and experiences to students.
